The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session. The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team ran a unique setup. His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running. Tsunoda slid over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the wall. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight. The veteran ended the session in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second off the Australian's time. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
